Angel4eva, you are sadly misinformed. The mayor of Bethlehem is a Christian, fer cryin' out loud! Did you watch the video? You saw what I look like, and the Palestinians in Bethlehem, both Christian and Muslim, were extremely welcoming.
The only things blocking you from going to Bethlehem for a pilgrimage are ignorance and irrational fear. Put your blood on a slow simmer, buy a plane ticket, and go.

i know the mayor is christian and so is the vice mayor who is a kind and forgiving man with wonderful heart.
i heard about his daughter christine it brought me 2 tears.
i never meant muslims are stopping me going
there i said Hamas are.
When i go 2 Bethelehem god willing i do cos it very important 2 me. i will go wen hamas aint in power.
it may sound mean, but y cant Bethelehem have a christian majority again? its christianity holiest city.thats wot i dont get.

After talking to a bunch of folks from Bethlehem and elsewhere in Palestine, it seems to me that there are two main reasons for the demographic changes. The first is the occupation: Palestinian Christians have a much easier time moving to the west, so more of them do. The other reason is the relative birthrates.
Of the two, the Israeli occupation, which is an equal opportunity oppressor, is the bigger factor in forcing Christians out of Bethlehem.

About Hamas "being in control" - as a tourist, you really have nothing to worry about. I'm not some polyanna who things everything is hunky-dory in Palestinian civil society, but as a tourist/pilgrim, you really have very little to worry about from any of the factions, Hamas included.
