More Jr. Heavyweight fun, this time in the form of Shuji Kondo. Kondo got his start with Toryumon after a Rugby career, and was initially a face. Eventually, he turned heel, and joined the Italian Connection, and adopted the surname of Condotti Shuji. When the group split, he led the heel side briefly before being fired by Dragon Gate. He traveled to Dragondoor, and was the heel ace during the brief existence of the promotion. After its demise, he eventually followed longtime ally "brother" YASHII. Together, they joined the heel supergroup Voodoo Murders, and briefly held the All Asia Tag Team Titles. In late 2005, Kondo earned arguably the biggest victory of his career when he defeated the legendary TAKA Michinoku for the AJPW World Jr. Heavyweight Title. As champion, Kondo defeated any and all comers, including Kaz Hayashi. In 2007, he was dethroned in upset fashion by Katsuhiko Nakajima. He would also play a role in the newly created El Dorado promotion, this time as a face. Here, he would feud with YASHII, and in 2008, he won the Greatest Golden League tournament, and then abruptly departed the promotion. He returned to All Japan, but failed to recapture the World Jr. Heavyweight Title against Kaz Hayashi. Shuji Kondo is probably one of the largest, if not the largest, Jr. Heavyweight competitors in the world, and that gives him a bit of an edge. He boasts two powerful variations of the move known as The Original, and the Gorilla Clutch can break any man who opposes Kondo. The King Kong Lariat is among the best Lariats you'll see in wrestling today.

  • who is he doing a gorrila clutch on

  • Kota Ibushi

  • Isn't the Whale Hunt the same thing as the California Roll?

  • Essentially, yeah. Kondo doesn't bridge with it, allowing for more impact.

  • No avalanche Destroyer DDT? lol, I know he only did it once and there's not enough room for it in a top 10 cuz this guy has so many great signature moves, but God damn that move was brutal!

  • As you said, it was only used once.

  • I believe Kondo is also one of the strongest Japanese wrestler, including heavy weights. They did a bench press contest in a NJPW show, Kondo took out everyone with ease, including Manabu Nakanishi. Daisuke Sekimoto could be stronger than him, and maybe Kensuke, and that's bout it.

  • he came one of my favourites just by looking this video, thanks!

  • Damn, I love the Whale Hunt and the Gorilla Clutch but man... In my eyes, the Lanzarse is just pure awesomness !! I would use those 3 moves as Finishers if I would be a wrestler !!

  • Think of Kobashi as a Junior and you get Kondo.

  • @TheStrigiforme I feel the same way. He'd have great matches with heavyweights his size or who could work him, but against bigger, slower guys they wouldn't have as much speed and impact. He's best playing it out like a junior heavyweight bully.

  • The Original Would be a Three quarter Suplex right?

  • nice video

  • @taranaich Jack Swagger tosses people too. Of course...it helps when he's in a feud with Mysterio.
