This is part of some music that Felix kindly shared with me and I had not been able to upload until now. A recital at the Patio de los Marmoles in Granada. I figured , while you listened, you would like to look at Philippe Jaroussky.Right?

  • PJ performs Carmen ... ridiculous and awful in one glass !!!!!

  • @spqrmor Have you heard the Habanera from Carmen sung by Andreas Scholl in his first venture in a CD called The Three Countertenors with D Visse and P Bertin? It was interesting and they did it in good fun!!!

  • This video seems to have generated very excited opinions! De gustibus unum...

  • Philippe has the right to sing WHATEVER he wants!! He is a genius, even if some people don't like some of his versions (his french melodies, for exemple).

I think this is product of his curiosity and his desire to explore, wich also let us know music we didn't know (J-C Bach, for instance), and i think that is his originality and the secret of his success.

  • I SO totally agree erikamabra! He is so intelligent and original he sings stuff others haven't even thought of!!!!His talents are so varied and he educates us, his public, with gorgeously created pieces. He is a true artist!!!

  • @tuffy942 Andreas Scoll is respected counter-tenor but even he is rediculous performing Habanera. It's time for me to listen to Angela Gheorghiu.

  • This is so sensual and entrancing! I'm enamoured!

  • Tragicamente imbarazzante!

  • @mrantiquedealer Why should it be serious? It was the last encore of the concert! :)

  • The fact that he SINGS in a high pitch voice does not turn him into a woman. He is ACTING. It's not real. He doesn't think he IS Carmen, nor does he think he is any woman for that matter. He sings a song, that's all.

A few hundred years ago every female role in opera was sung by a man. Women were not alowed on stage or singing Mass, so the men did it. That did not make them any less of a man and noone was offended by them.

Loose the bigotry, please. It makes you look stupid.

  • April Fool's to you too! C'mon now! This is not serious stuff!!!

  • Please, people, he is not playing Carmen, he's just singing an aria, out of context - it's not the same thing. He also sang "Lascia ch'io pianga", and I can't remember everybody getting histerical about "Oh, but it's the aria of the heroine, it should only be sung by a woman". The main difference is that the average audience knows Carmen better than Rinaldo...

Ps.) Is there anything in the lyrics that would indicate the gender of the singer? I must have missed it.
