After the March 8th snowstorm on Eastern Quebec this is me, getting out from my driveway in my Sidekick. The tyres are M+S and are not certified for winter driving under the new (silly) law as of December 15th this year.

  • NO differential lock can save any car when it gets bellied on the snow. Been there, done that. Soon as you realize that when the tires begin to get airborne while you sit in the car shifting gears and killing the engine but motionless in the deep snow, meanwhile you should think of buying a snowmobile. I've done that. And while a 4x4 car can easily get into trouble in the first minute after entering deep snow, I'm somewhere far away with my snowcat.

  • @Brendon00000 Going to be honest here.. One of my friends had one, body rotted SO bad.. but mechanically it seemed fine.. He never had any serious issues.. And trust me, he gave it a beating.. Off roading, excessive speeds etc. I think if problems with the transfer case or a diff were an issue, he would have found them.. Type in "topped out sidekick" in here.. You will see lol.

  • ive been looking for one of these either the geo, gmc, chevy or suzuki, are they any good? in terms of reliability, I hear the transfer case and differential cause alot of problems

  • @2009jimmy2009 Or he could just adjust the backlash...

  • @boliboy2299 You need to adjust your clutch pedal play. Both the manual ones I've owned did this. Does the clutch start grabbing low on the pedal or high?

  • yes it could be backlash in the diff!! but check the gearbox and engine mountings first as both of these jerk to the side once you let the clutch out! if the rubber is worn, metal hits metal and makes that bang sound! but if it is the diff it is an easy repair!! you just have to find a diff!

  • thanks for the reply,

the sound itself appear on the 4th step of the following:

    1) suppose im on first gear and I wanna change to second gear

    2) I hit the clutch to change to second

    3) I change the gear to second

    4) I leave the clutch while I press the accelerator at the same time

  • i just dumped a rear diff aswell a while back!! i would say thats not the problem, the hit sound is most likley the rubber bushings that hold the gearbox to the boby! check them out first! they are a great 4x4!

  • i bought one Jap model from 1992, pretty good shape only there is a hit sound like in the rear diferential when I change gears.

  • did you buy a sidekick/vitara????
