On the May 16th, 2010, a group of 6 students from NTU's Civil and Environmental Engineering School (CEE) went on a trip to Cambodia under the support of Lien Aid. Out of these 6 students, 4 were working as student interns in the Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), Lien Aid, which is headquartered in NTU itself.
Lien Aid has reaches in Cambodia, China, Vietnam. Their projects overseas are mainly dealing with water and sanitation issues that many less fortunate people in these developing countries face.
While being in Lien Aid, the students had the priviledge of understanding how these projects work to better the lives of the people. It is even more meaningful that this group of students were able to apply some of their knowledge that they have gained through their course curriculum!
With all the background research done in the office, they had the chance to travel to Cambodia to visit the project sites of Lien Aid. These places were - Andong, Kampong Speu and Chhnouk Trou. Each of these places were different, in the settings, their history and culture. However, one common factor binds them. Sanitation and clean water supply is scarce that it affects everyone's health.
Despite not being able to completely transform the lives of the people that the team met while travelling, they took away deep impressions, revelations and lessons that they will always remember. This exhibition is some of the many scenes that they have come across during their journey and they hope that by sharing the experience, they can help to spread on the word and hope that everyone can do something, if only they want to.
