In this episode, I try to shake off the cold weather (and a head cold) by looking at the classic summer vacation comedy, The Great Outdoors, starring Dan Aykroyd and John Candy. We?ll take a brief look at the careers of Aykroyd and Candy along with legendary writer-producer-director John Hughes, who wrote the screenplay for this film. The DVD Shelf Movie Reviews is hosted by David Rose. Check out more videos at http://happydragonpictures.com !

  • I get the feeling that the romantic subplot was a studio suggestion. Studios should really stop trying to control the creativity like that or else we'll have useless romance in stuff where it doesn't matter, like Transformers movies.

  • @PunchSydeironReviews You make a good point. That didn't really occur to me. Maybe you can't blame either of them!

  • @happydragonpics Oh crap, I forgot about that.

  • @PunchSydeironReviews Yeah, it's a shame. I hate to say it since I was a fan of King of Queens, but Kevin James just seems to be their new stand-in for Chris Farley. And now Rob Schneider has his own sitcom, which will probably be cancelled any minute now.

  • @happydragonpics I've noticed that the casting with HM films tends to involve former SNL cast members that Sandler worked with on SNL, unfortunately only the ones who either can't find work or almost never find work like Schneider, Spade, and Buschemi, who made the film all the more painful to watch.

  • @PunchSydeironReviews Oh yeah. I heard about that. Seth McFarlane from Family Guy owns the rights, so I wonder if it'll probably be more adult. But, yeah, I can't stand this garbage that's getting released now. I can't believe anyone went to see Jack and Jill - THAT looked like the worst Happy Madison movie ever. And I used to generally like that stuff. I think after Funny People, Sandler gave up.

  • @happydragonpics Ikr?! I saw "Grown Ups" and I think it's got to be one of the worst Happy Madison films ever. Don't get me started on those TV adaptations. I've read online that Fox will be remaking "The Flintstones." The remake of "The Smurfs" alone really gives me the urge to sharpen a pool cue and practice seppuku.

  • @SolidMike That's the idea! It's unfortunate that anymore comedies can ONLY be raunchy and family movies, for the most part, SUCK!

  • I always learn something new from a DVD Shelf Review, extremely insightful!

love the lesson at the end, families should really watch these great 80's family flicks.

  • @busystreetblog Thanks!
