Hip Resurfacing: Study, 1999

The story of William Starrett, a famous Ballet Dancer. He opted for a new experimental procedure called Hip Resurfacing, when his arthritic hips caused him to quit performing. After successful surgey, he returned to the stage 6 months later to continue his astonishing career.

After watching this program, I too considered having this surgery. I was accepted in the study in 1999 and had to wait on a list for 7 months before I could undergo the surgery. On May 25, 2000 I became a 'resurfaced hippy' and have led an active, pain-free life, thanks to this procedure.

As of this uploading, it is widely available throughout the world under different company's and specially trained doctors. This is a metal on metal, minimally invasive surgery. At this time the device is classified as a Class-B, Non-experimental, Investigational Device in the US. Some insurances might not cover the procedure.

I was William's personal trainer thru the mid to late 90's when he was in excruciating pain. We just tried to keep him as strong as we could for as long as we could. What a great person William is and inspiration to all.

This is inspiring! I am not a dancer...I just want to be able to walk up and down the stairs normally again...watching this has given me hope. Good for you William.... and yes... you are a fabulous dancer! ;) Like you.... I too... was a dancer... and like you... I too wore out my hips.... And freaked when all of a sudden my hips were hurting- I got my 1st Hip replaced 4 years ago... and got my 2nd Hip replaced 2 weeks ago... My goal now is to hit a dancefloor by April 18th... but not for pay! ;) Dance is my love. Don't wear out your new hips! *hugs*
