Difficult to judge out of context. Concerning the young girl, Tebaldi may have been simply dealing with a young student at the very beginning of her studies. It is also certainly the case that ignorant teachers will push their beginning students into a masterclass that will only traumatize rather than help them.

WHy was such a crap student even put in front of her?

That girl sings like shit. This legend wasted her time =/

Let me translate the interview
Like a professional well know and respected singer, I can tell this girl sounds like a female cat been fucked on front of my apt window. You know when cats fuck,the female does this strange high pitch sound that really hurts our ears. I didn't want to be rude to her and tell her to go home,you know they are paying me very well to pretend that she has talent. But let me tell you something and this is serious. This girl needs help, serious mental help. SHE CAN'T SING

I would also have been upset with the young student trying to sing Mozart. Understandably so, she's impressed by Tebaldi's regal presence, but come on, the voice is awful, no style, no projection, worse than a sick cat. BTW Tebaldi's "Vissi d'arte" heard in this excerpt is certainly the most beautiful rendition of Tosca's prayer ever ....

I think Tebaldi is sarcastic and mean; you don't have to do that just because you are considered a "great" singer.

@kh3205 Absolutely! What a waste! So many of us would have given both arms to have been in the place of that useless student. I'm embarrassed that Tebaldi had to waste her time listening to that.

@Chicomedio oh oh oh chicoooo
Tebaldi's studied with C. Melis who had been a noted singer. Then she was coached by M. Llopart, another noted singer, who eventually would teach/coach Moffo, Scotto, Kraus, Cossotto and Souliotis. In any case, Tebaldi is actually generous to this student. However, the regular teacher of this girl should have said to the girl, "You are not ready to sing for Tebaldi."

Becoming a good one, you needs discipline. None of the big ones was based on a soft-silk treatment. Courage and perseverance is needed and not soft words like, oh you are good and can be better, work more honey!!!, your opinion reveals a bit of your trauma and you do have the negativity, trying to destroy the good image of Mrs Tebaldi.
