Episode 4 of my photography series discusses and demonstrates composition (rule of thirds, golden mean or ratio, etc). You'll also want to check out my blog - http://binarygraphite.blogspot.com/ - as it's supplemented with additional information and links to sites describing this topic in detail. Hope you enjoy, remember to rate (5 stars!), and subscribe so you can stay up to date with my future videos.

  • good for beginners~!

  • Very good and interesting, but don't record a video if you are in a hurry!!!

  • @geonerd ... from type of subject, type of photography (journalistic, macro, landscape, portrait, etc.), to simple timing. Fascinating topic though! Thanks for your comment and perspective.

  • @geonerd I personally find it interesting to know about these rules. Although not true in all cases, even if some photographers ignore the rules, very often one can be applied to their images (e.g. ROT or Golden Mean); so there is probably some truth to them I would say (but again, not always the case). Nonethless, even if composition was as simple as tic-tac-toe as you mentioned, even then not everyone would be a master as there is so much more to a "great" photograph, ...

  • @geonerd I mostly agree with what you've said and in fact I'm probably somewhat guilty in this video because I most often don't use any rule; I simply "see" a photograph and snap it up with my camera. Composition is, in my opinion, one of the most difficult aspects to photography, whether to explain, teach (if at all it can be "really" taught), and even to analyze as we all value photographs differently (e.g. I like landscapes, whereas another person likes portraits better, etc).
