@ManusscriptRE I forgot to put my apartment number on a package shipped from Vancouver. It sat at Canada Post for 4 days "verifying the address". No one tried to contact me to notify me of the situation. Then it was shipped back to Vancouver, which I will have to pay for no doubt. I emailed CP, called them, and filed a complaint to try to get them to update my address so I could get the package. You know what they said? Sorry sir, we can not help you. Disgusting.

Let me explain before you get the media involved. If an item requires a signature, we MUST attempt delivery to the customer. Any item that is "signature" we go to the door and knock twice. Then if we dont get a response we "Card" the item. If an item DOES NOT require a signature, we do not need to knock. We simply leave it at your door, or in the mailbox if it will fit. This is called "Safe dropping". If its not safe to drop, we leave you a notice where you can pick it up. Non signature=no knock

contractors work hard. they are just ill-trained and dont know the proper procedures. and they arent as commited to canada post. they dont work for canada post, they just do jobs ofr them. I hope the public realizes the difference between CUPW members and contractors. And knows CUPW members always strive to give the most excellent service possible. Even if it means we go into overtime (which alot of the time we dont even get paid for), we get the job done. Union for life.

Canada post has never once knocked on the door or rang my doorbell. They always check off "no answer" on a slip and drop it in my mailbox.
I try and avoid using them when possible. Lazy lazy lazy.

Its easier to manage staff if you don't contract work out. Otherwise you give up quality control.

Please keep posting these. We are having a terrible time w/ Canadapost deliverers sticking the 'you weren't here' notice to our door and running down our walkway w/o even bringing the package to the door, ringing, and waiting. We are talking to CTV local news about an upcoming story. We're in the GTA, BTW.
I should point that our postie generally does a good job wit the mail. It's some of the contractors that they use for parcel deliveries that are the problem. We haven't seen this particular contractor in a while so maybe she's found a more suitable line of work.
