(Actually modern human fossils older than 35,000 years have been found in Europe. There is DNA evidence of existence from about 50,000 years ago.)

The "Out of Africa" model is the one accepted by the vast majority of Anthropologists. Humans evolved in Africa around 100,000 years ago and moved into Europe around 60,000 years ago; growing lighter skin as the population became isolated. The first Europeans were likely dark skinned, and probably ran into light skinned Neanderthals who had been in Europe for a while.
