2010 Shanghai World Expo
Broad Corporate Pavilion
A Chinese sustainable building group has completed its Corporate Pavilion at the 2010 Shanghai World Expo. The pavilion focuses on low carbon building and low carbon life attitude.
Located at the western bank (Puxi) district E of the World Expo Site, the building is composed of two large elements: a skewed pyramid tensile fabric structure and a L-shaped building assembled with entirely factory made components, boasting an onsite construction time of only 24 hours. The entire pavilion is roughly 3,500sqm.
Curators of the pavilion identified the issues of building safety and building energy consumption and demonstrated simple solutions to increase energy efficiency and building's ability to defense against natural disasters.

The differentiating factor of this building amongst others is its practicality. It is the only linear building amongst its non-linear blobitecture neighbors; it is the lowest cost per sqm pavilion at the expo; yet the client had a very concrete ideas, he wish to send to the visitors.
Wearing a minimalistic exterior skin, the building program includes an earthquake simulation house, able to reenact the 2008 Wenchuan 7.8 Earthquake;
Prefabricated building components, demonstrating lightweight structure, diagonal bracing structure component can reduce horizontal thrust during earthquake.
Building thermal insulation experience, where visitors can place their palms on the surfaces of the wall to experience different temperature and discover the effectiveness of insulation to increase occupant comfort and reducing energy consumption.
Passing through a dark tunnel, visitors are lead into the pyramid where they will watch a theme multimedia performance "Seeking the direction of 7 billion people".
The multimedia performance is achieved with video projectors, 4D global warming video projection and gobo light projectors. Every surfaces of the inside of the pyramid becomes part of the screen due to the application of a movable mirror ball.
7 video art installation are located inside the pyramid, video projectors project onto objects inside the "wells" to create augmented reality, exploring this year's Expo's theme "Better city, better life".
The pavilion also hosts a gallery show of "100 Places to remember before they disappear", an organic food restaurant, and several employee offices.
The pavilion uses LED illumination both indoor and outdoor, achieve 80% CO2 reduction.
