Bessie Smith--1929

Born in Chattanooga, Tenn. April 15, 1894, earlier census say July 9, 1892. Killed in auto wreck Sept. 26, 1937 traveling in Miss. for a gig.. Father was a Baptist Preacher, and at nine lost her Mother. Raised by older brother. Enter, John Hammond who promoted her as well as Benny , and many other stars. She has around 160.recordings., in the archives. In.an unmarked grave , many years later a stone was paid for by Janis Joplin.

Years ago, an old man told me that Absinthe was very damaging to a bar top when spilled so marble was added to bar tops as a place to serve this powerful liquor without damage. Hearing this made me want to try it. : ) If you get time check out Janis Joplin singing "Give Me Whiskey" Enjoy!

Not much info in the box, but the song is "St Louis Blues" by the soulful/sinful Empress of the Blues herself, Bessie Smith.

Isn't it funny how the drunks in the bar sound like a church choir? If that's what alcohol does, then pour me a drink!
