Interesting that the song was never used in the movie. It was recorded after the film was made.

Ahh the time that never existed.
Wild West had a lower murder rate than today in America.

I love the theme songs to these old Westerns: "Gunfight at the OK Corral," "The Good, the Bad, and the Ungly." I also voted for Obama, TWICE. What? I was supposed to vote for those rich, arrogant elitists, McCain and Romney?

When I first saw this movie as a kid, the "Newspaper Guy", as I thought of him, was one of my favorites. He just seemed so strong, and right. Of course as kid, I thought strong guys would win out...the scene where Liberty shoved the newspaper down his throat actually made me throw up. I've watched this movie MANY time since. That was 50 yrs ago and I still think this movie has a LOT to teach. Love it.

It wasn't his fight. It was Pilgrim's fight but he saw that Liberty really was just going to murder Rance, so he shot him to save him knowing that this would mean he would lose his girl to him. He was the bravest of them all. He gave up everything he held dear to stop a psychopath from murder.

This is one of those great movies that's overlooked and unappreciated. I also consider this John Waynes best performance.. The entire cast in this movie were marvelous in their roles. Edmund O'Brian should have gotten an Oscar for best supporting actor. And, Lee Marvin, Strother Martin, Andy Devine, Jimmy Stewart etc. were great in their roles.
