I'm so proud to say the one and only Bobby Swanson is my next door neighbor! He's retired now, although he still plays in a cover band about once per month. Great guy!
He does have a "fan page" if you're interested... facebook.com /bobbyswansonmusic

If you want a comparative recording. Try Glen Glen singing Laurie Ann. The voice and the song are as close as it gets.

@Blacksardine Yes, Glen Glenn is real close. I posted Laurie Ann about a year ago if anyone wants to listen. I'm wondering if Ezdduf4kuZ got this mixed up with another post? I said Ricky Nelson style only because people are very familiar with him and this is something he probably would have recorded if he had the option back then.

Don't look at my comment in a completely negative way. First of all this classic is my favorite pop hit from 1960. The second thing I have to tell you is I never gave ricky nelson any thought when I was listening to china doll, until I tuned this video in a few months back. I'll have to agree with you somewhat as bobby Swanson certainly dosen't sound like Gene Pitney, Freddy(boom boom) Cannon, Fabian, Brian Hyland or even Elvis! But then again he reminds me more of Bobby Vee(sorry).

No NEG outlook on my behalf. B. Swanson indeed does not sound anything like Gene Pitney, Freddy Cannon, Fabian, Brian Hyland or even Elvis! Not even close, where do you get them names from? I said he had a Ricky Nelson sound, something Ricky would have done in this style. Sorry, B. Vee would be a huge no, not even close. However, it's all in the ears of the beholder.
