The NIHILIST SPASM BAND in 1982.
I shot this when I was 13 in London Ontario at THE FOREST CITY ART GALLERY when it was located above NOVACKS on King street.
The band here are Greg Curnoe, Hugh McIntyre, Murray Favro and guest John Moss.
It is strange to watch these guys talking to each other.
It's like it was yesterday.
Hugh, Greg and even John Moss are gone now.
To hear Greg talking about going down the street to the restaurant MARIO'S really brings back memories.
MARIO"S is gone now too.

  • The Nihilist Spasm Band do not aspire to be less annoying or more melodic than a two year old who has stumbled upon a plugged in guitar.

  • Listening to the NSB from any period restores my faith in the human spirit at it's best.

  • We were listening to one of your cds the other day,

so I decided to look you up on youtube,

    And there you are.

Rest in peace great uncle Hughie.

  • one must see them live to really appreciate the sensation. if you listen for two hours you will hear two minutes of beauty that makes the rest of the nonsense worth it. hard to believe but true.

  • They do have a vocalist. Just not this night.

  • i'm not sure if they capture the essence of artificial city life with it's emphasis on polluting technological machines taking over every aspect of our daily existence or if they're just shitty

  • i might be missing something, but i've heard a two year old stumble upon a plugged-in electric guitar and the resulting sound was both more melodic and less annoying.

  • These guys are not trying to deconstruct anything.

They are playing the only way they know how to play together. It's not a big ARTY concept. They enjoy their music and if their audience doesn't the audience can screw off for all they care.

There are NO rules in anything!

    Do what you want.
