  • Hi, just to let you know that both New Scientist and Giz Mag have put up articles about this reserach on thier online magazines, good reading. I have also had papers recently published in the Journal of Sports Technology, the Journal of Computer Methods in Biomechanics and Biomedical Engineering, and the Journal of Applied Biomechanics if you are looking for more information.

  • I have written two papers on the accuracy of IMUs that are under review and should be out soon for those interested in more technical information.

  • A paper on the subject is to be published in the Journal of Sports Technology in February 2008. Because skiing like most human activities is very dynamic I had to write special software to combine or fuse the data, hence Fusion Motion Capture. In the past the software available for the IMUs was not accurate enough for biomechanical analysis when 0.1 of a second is important.

  • Hi, this is really interesting,looks great! what type of sytem have you used to capture the data, and what software did you use to analyse it, its not like anything ive seen before.

  • Fusion Motion Capture is a system I designed from components that are readily available such as GPS and IMUs (Inertial Mearsurement units) and pressure sensitive insoles. An IMU about the size of a match box is attached to each limb of interest. GPS is attached to the athlete's helmet.

  • This was a PhD research project. Since completion (see my other videos too) I have not had any funding to work on this project further. Presently I am involved in postural balance research and falls prevention in older people, which is kind of related.... Good balance is important for skiing too!

  • This looks very interesting. I see it was posted back in 2007. Now I'm curious to find how this software has advanced.
