Indonesians held a protest marking the anti-corruption day on Wednesday. They are demanding the government take tougher action against politicians who break the law.
More than 1500 anti-corruption demonstrators took to the streets outside the Presidential Palace and Bundaran Hotel Indonesia in Jakarta. They hope the government will take a tougher stance against corrupt politicians.
[Heru Purwoko, Protestor]:
"Today we are gathered at the government center to celebrate world anti-corruption day. We hope that all kinds of corruption are eliminated."
Many protesters demanded a deeper investigation into the Bank Century case.
On December 1st, Indonesia's parliament agreed to investigate the government's bailout of the small lender.
A recent investigation by the Supreme Audit Agency into the Bank Century affair found fault with the central bank's handling of the bailout.
The central bank had said the bailout, which amounted to $710 million, was done in line with existing regulations.
Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono was re-elected in July on the back of his reform and anti-corruption credentials.
