This popular genesis of Dennis Bergkamp's fear of flying is poppycock, according to the great man Himself in an interview he gave nine years ago (Coen Verbraak, 'Vrij Nederland', Christmas 2002)

  • @visse264 Interesting. Thanks!

  • Glad you responded. You already had it in the title, but I guess it cannot be said enough that, indeed, the bomb thing wasn't the real reason. It just made the decision easier. As I understand, he felt, for a number of years, he was too much concerned about the idea of flying, even during matches, to the point that he couldn't focus enough on the real thing: football. After the decision, he felt kind of liberated and I think it showed in his Arsenal years.

  • @visse264 I'm not responsible for the laziness and stupidity of other people, visse264. Besides, I'm far too busy with my own laziness and stupidity!

By the way, Bergkamp says that his fear existed before this incident, but as far as I know he categorically refused to fly after it. Which means that the bomb scare is not responsible for his FEAR of flying, but appears to be responsible for his ABSTINENCE from flying! (The incident being the final drop, as it were)

  • REV16665, this being poppycock, as you say yourself, are you sure it is a good idea to upload it? Even more people will think this is the truth.

  • @bunglebear69 That man is incredible. Not only a great footballer, but also far from stupid. This is from Wikipedia: 'He studied and received a first class degree in Mechanical engineering from the University of Bath, choosing to study there during the summers of his time spent at Arsenal'. Can you imagine Cristiano Ronaldo or Didier Drogba doing that? Or Wayne Rooney?

  • dennis bergkamp = legend
