    Another project detail well explained.

Thanks David! There are so many things I've talked about in the video series. Tomorrow I'm taping the first siding videos and the layout tips in those I believe are really good. Too many people focus on getting siding level. That's not a bad idea, but there's something far more important.

Yep. I guess the kicker is what to do when you are required to install something you know is not best practice.

Perhaps I'll just direct them to your video! Maybe they'll learn a thing or two!

Thanks! Please do direct them to it. That's why I said in the video to " ... use common sense."

I see that all the time in the code. The authors of the code just don't think things through, especially the secondary effects of a requirement. Sometimes the secondary effects of something take years to manifest themselves. Black algae on fiberglass shingles is a great example as is roof rot on ISPs.

Tim, funny thing about that is some of the local building inspectors (yes, I remember your comments about some of the inspectors) REQUIRE that bottom tape to be there, or they'll fail the window installation. They interpret that it is required by code.

Jeremy, This is the same code that used to say it was absolutely fine NOT TO INSTALL a water barrier under exterior finishes if there was a 1-inch air space. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAAHAAHAHAAHAHA

Are you kidding me? You always need a water barrier! Yes, the building code has quite a few flaws in it.
