Join Carlos "Gninja" Mora (EQII Game Designer) as he gives us a special behind-the-scenes glimpse at mercenaries. Mercenaries will be available exclusively with the new EverQuest II expansion: Age of Discovery, available December 6, 2011!
@basmithtx Yeah, I might have been a bit bit harsh, especially considering I wasn't come from a lay-person's position. But Mercenaries are going to be a great addition to the game so I just wanted them to be talked up with information and the positives more! Food for thought for next time SOE; as as you can see from comments I'm not the only one who noticed the lack of information here. It's certainly not an 'irrational' request/expectation though.
@Nath1926 Oh my, mountains of pedantry over a 2min video. Most of it just about irrelevant details like prices, or a sociopathic addiction to precision in superfluous information. I personally found the video very interesting, because I don't know much of anything about EQ2. He showed me that such a system exists (or will), and showed it's basic functionality...he did say a "little" information, so expecting a lot of information is irrational.
@hateeternalmaver It's a cubicle, which has been a common thing for like 50+ years. Only the "big dogs" get real walls with a real door in a decent sized company... ;-)
Putting it aside that there was basically no information whatsoever in this short sequence, I claim to SOE: Pleeeeaaase give this guy a real office, geez... xD
@Gninja98 Thank you! Disappointing still that such seemingly fundamental information wasn't in the behind the scenes video, but it's great that you responded. Mercenaries - from what I've read/seen - are going to be a GREAT addition to the game, but like almost anything in society these days, a lot of great ideas/products die simply due to poor advertising.
This was filmed during beta when hiring prices etc were still in flux. They all use a wide range of spells/abilities. That specific one has a good balance of healing ability as well as offensive ability. Mercs can be customized much in the way mannequins can be. During combat they cast as often as their spells are up. In most cases the refresh on their spells are fairly short.
@TheHorsenation They have to be weaker than player characters so you will still prefer a PC over an NPC merc in your group. SOE don't want to make grouping a thing of the past, they just want to give players the option still of being able to at least attempt group content when they can't find that player healer/support/tank to join them.
SoE please answer, when will the Fury mercenary come out?

1.You should angle the screen to the camera.
2.Why not tell us what the fee and salary is for the healer merc you recruited?
3.You didn't tell us about their spells. Are they all healing based, are there offensive ones too? If so, what's roughly the ratio?
4.You didn't say anything about customising mercs. This feature will appeal to many players
5.You show one battle. How often do they cast during combat? etc etc.
There is basically no information shown in this video.
Disappointing, SOE.
