@PuertoRicanVideo Flash butt welding has been around as long as thermite. Both have their uses, and unless they've miniaturized the equipment needed, thermite is still more portable and has better economy of scale if you're only doing maintenance related joint repair. Flash butt is fantastic if you have a large project, like converting jointed rail to ribbon, or if you have multiple rail relay gangs working in an area.
