Tips To Enable your first Drupal 7 Module In 3 Basic Steps

All of us have aspirations, goals we would like to realize in web design. Usually there are things you want to do in Drupal like take a poll or send a link to twitter when you post a new article. How do you do that in Drupal? Modules! Her is how you enable your first module. Once you know how, modules are really not so difficult, it can be easier than you think to enable your first drupal 7 module. Here are the easiest ways you can enable your first drupal 7 module in three steps.

The essential initial step is to locate the module you would like to install on www.drupalmodules.com. You are going to need to do that because drupalmodules.com is the easiest way to search for new modules. At the same time you will want to avoid using drupal.org (the main drupal site) for your module searches because drupalmodules is way more organized.

.

And after that, the second step is going to be to upload the tar.gz file to your server and uncompress it using your server tools or uncompress the file on your local computer and upload the uncompressed folder to your sites/all/modules folder. To uncompress a tar.gz on a pc try 7-zip and on a mac there are programs native that will uncompress it for you just by double clicking the file. Check out our resource page for more information http://homeschool-webmaster.com/content/how-uncompress-targz-file-mac-pc-and-.... There are 2 things that you will need to circumvent here. These would be to make sure every file is uploaded. If you upload the module and enable it and it crashes your drupal site... Dont be scared everyone... No damage done. just delete the module from your ftp server and re-uncompress is and put it up again. Most of the time this will fix your problem. and also sometimes their are modules that have not been tested on all servers and you may have an odd server. If the module doesnt work, look for another that is simular. Amazingly enough there are usually 2 or more types of modules that do what you want it to do..

The 3rd and last step is To enable the module in your drupal site and start configuring it. Lets pause for a second. The crazy thing about drupal is that you may have to go to 3 different places to configure one module.... Its crazy! Drupal 7 helps stramline this with better standards but your number one resourse is your little "readme.txt" file in side the folders of your module. Each (good) module will have a read me file that explains step by step how to configure the module. Read this every time. This is of crucial importance because every stinking module is different. That is the frustration of Drupal.. With this final step the most critically thing to avoid is is not being willing to research the module. Take your time to read the reviews on drupalmodules.org and you will save yourself hours and even days of frustrating work..

If you follow these steps... Your drupal success looks bright to enabling your first drupal 7 module.
