1.3 On Paul: A Small Background Overview

On Paul: Acts is not as reliable when reconstructing Paul's background because it was written later.
Paul was his Roman name/ Saul his Hebrew name. Jews who lived among Gentiles/Jews at times used two names. Paul knew Greek and Hebrew possibly Aramaic ( but that may have been Hebrew). Only Acts identifies Paul as from Tarsus

I've turned them into videos at my Jewish Quest website. Since you're already a member there, you don't have to spend the money on buying these lectures at Torah In Motion, but ... for those who do go to Torah In Motion ... I don't think $3.99 per lecture is expensive. Prof. Basser's lectures are well worth that small fee, IMO.

Paul didn't have a falling out with Yeshua's immediate disciples or Yeshua's brother. Merge the timeline in Galatians and Acts. Peter went to the Syrian Antioch before Acts 15 & the Shammaite-Judeans' issue regarding Gentile conversion was settled in Acts 15, which sided with the pro-Gerim Toshav policies of the House of Hillel the Elder. Paul's alleged attacks on the Law in Galatians are directed at proto-Gnostics and their misue of Jewish rituals - not the Torah itself. Cf. Walter Schmithals.
