The government has appealed a recent ruling from the Human Rights Review Tribunal, about payments to families who care for their disabled adult children. The tribunal found that the Ministry of Health had unlawfully disciminated on the basis of family status, and that family carers should be paid for the care they provide, in circumstances where the government would otherwise have to pay for that care. John Forman is Executive Director of the New Zealand Carers Alliance, and he spoke to Allan Lee about why the government's appeal highlights continued problems for carers.
