DALAI LAMA - BERTRAND DELANOE - NEXT PRESIDENT OF FRANCE IN 2012?

Bertrand DELANOE is currently the Mayor of PARIS
[Date and place of birth: 30 May 1950, Tunis (Tunisia)]
[Occupation: Communications consultant]
Re-elected Mayor of Paris on 21 March 2008.

Address: Hôtel de Ville - 75196 Paris RP - France
[Arrondissement: 18th]

He was so concerned about Human Rights that he took the decision to honour the Dalai Lama with the Award of Freedom of the City of Paris at the Paris "Hotel de Ville" or Paris City Hall.

Elected office in the Paris City Council: Elected to the Conseil de Paris on 20 March 1977 and 11 October 1986
Re-elected on 19 March 1989, 18 June 1995, 18 March 2001 and 16 March 2008

Elected Mayor of Paris on 25 March 2001, re-elected on 21 March 2008

Bertrand DELANOE is:
- OPEN
- ACCOUNTABLE
- TRANSPARENT
- HONEST

- Supports HUMAN RIGHTS

- Supports FREEDOM OF SPEECH

His support has rocketed since he has introduced positive changes through his term in office as Mayor of the City of Paris.

He is identified as a genuine "man of the People" with "a common touch" - he has been Mayor of Paris for 10 years.

- It has been a slow rise to power.
- Municipal Councillor since 1977.
- Spokesman for his political party since 1981.
- He became its head 12 years ago.
- He has made it clear that the Opposition has dishonoured Paris.
- He was to discover many fake jobs in the Cabinet Office.
- He launched his Mayoral campaign as "the underdog".
- He was elected in 2001 on a PROMISE to restore TRANSPARENCY & HONESTY!

- He gained "notoriety" for unusual events such as the PARIS "Beach" - yet this purported "notoriety" was rapidly copied in cities like Berlin and Prague.
- He introduced an enormously successful bicycle scheme in Paris that was LATER adopted/copied in LONDON! [His extremely popular scheme was visited by Ken Livingstone (Lab.) and adopted later by Boris Johnson (Con.)].
- He staked his whole career petitioning for HONESTY.
- In 1998 he came out publicly as a gay man.
[This was thought ill judged by many of his political allies - but one he doesn't regret].
- He is an annual figure at the city's Gay Pride march.
- Paris is the world's largest city with an openly gay leader.
- His so-called "honest" politics have won him legions of supporters.

Like Jacques Chirac before him - he hopes the seal of approval of Paris will lead to the Elysee Palace [French Presidential Office] in 2012.

- In relation to the annoyance of most of the Public - many people complain regularly about JUNK MAIL. After years of complaints from Parisian residents, the Paris Mayor decided to act and act with determination. There was huge resistance from fast food restaurants, plumbers, supermarkets and real estate agents. At the beginning of the month, the Mayor of Paris announced a ban on ALL junk mail.

"Citizens are increasingly ANGRY and ANNOYED by the relentless JUNK mail, so we have finally decided to say enough is enough," the mayor stated.

Mayor of Paris, M. Bertrand Delanoë, has FINALLY passed a law banning junk mail.

- Trees everywhere breathed a sigh of relief.
