It is not just Laas Geel that has ancient caves. There are massive ancient cave-dweller homes on top of hills outside of Bosaso(Puntland), unfortunately its not safe for foreign archaeologists to study this. However Bosaso and the rest of Puntland is safe for all Somalis. We need Somali archaeologists like Dr. Sada Mire, for example, to come and study this. Laas Geel is SOMALI history, no politics please! Somaliweyn is rich in ancient culture mashallah!

Surely it is extremely unwise that people walk right up to these delicate paintings and touch them. That way they will disappera in two years.

I agree with you. At first I was shocked that we really could walk in and touch the walls if we wanted to. Then I realized that those paintings have been there for thousads of years, and people have always spent their time under the walls protecting themselves from the heat or the rain. The area is properly guarded for today's needs, but in the future it will not be enough.
