Recently NHL Network began replaying each game in which the Stanley Cup was won from 1975-2010. Here, the Carolina Hurricanes (cough cough Hartford Whalers) take on the Edmonton Oilers in game 7 of the 2006 Finals, with the 'Canes coming out on top 3-1. Carolina won its first and only Cup to date, and that includes the team's time in Hartford, however they did appear in the Finals in 2002 when they were defeated by the Detroit Red Wings.

  • the horn went off at 0:04 seconds left in the game. (or at 7:09 on youtube) I wish the Oilers won this one... ah well we'll be back. Oilers still got 5 vs 1 cup. Go Oilers!

  • @RandomActsCorp I find it somewhat weird that of the five cups the Oilers have won, all but one (1990) was won at Northlands.

  • This should have been the hartford whalers......

  • @wtighe02 Notice in the description how I don't go without mentioning the Whalers. Also notice how when I put this together I omitted Bettman's "shpeal" about how the move to Raleigh worked.

  • im a calgary fan so I wud hav shot my self if Edmonton won game 7

  • @tupluck699 I am sorry about Game 6 in 2004 :(

  • Sorry folks, but these are NOT the Hartford Whalers, the Whalers never did ANYTHING to deserve any credit, but since moving to Raleigh, the franchise has had more success. Can't you folks just accept that for once?

  • @wtighe02 Hahaha it cracks me up how people won't let that go...no the Hurricanes deserved to be there, my friend.

  • fuck man!!!

  • Miss the days when they would play "We Are the Champions" when the cup was won.

  • Doc lost his shit @ 4:20

  • @DonovanGoose

Yes, I was at that game. The noise was absolutely deafening. And when Williams broke away for the empty net goal, I thought the arena was gonna collapse. It was a "religious" experience.

  • @wtighe02 What did the Whalers ever do? I'll wait.

  • Hurricanes!!! All you haters crack me up. The name is on the trophy..what you going to do?

  • Third crazy playoff year in row for Western Conf. Top 4 teams lost in 1st round, #5 & #7 teams lost in 2nd round, & #6 team lost in Conf Final. So, teams with home-ice lost 6 out of 7 series in West. Third year in row that team from Eastern Conf won Game 7s in both Conf Final and Cup Final. Canes got best of all worlds by getting home-ice when Buff beat Ott in 2nd round & Sabres got hit with all those injuries. Just enough for Rod & his crew of lucky bastards to take Cup. Only kidding, Canes.

  • @oilersandguitars Not really. After looking at the roster from '06 when the Canes won, I see that apart from Staal and Ward, the only other player from that Cup-winning team is Chad LaRose. That's only three players. Of course Staal and Ward were and are two of our best players, and Chad Larose is decent, but I think I can objectively say that the Canes are a very different team now. So are the Oilers; I think you guys could be pretty good in a season or two with guys like Nugent-Hopkins.

  • @Mrbillsfan11 Staal and Ward were on the team in 06, the team from 06 to now really has not changed all that much...

  • It's sad that although markkanen was the backup goalie for edmonton, he was great in the finals and still didn't win the cup
