Oh god, :35 sounds terrible!
-
I don't have a soul and it still sounds like a girlfriend chord.

I believe he's using the 3rd mode of the melodic minor scale, which I call the lydian augmented, since it has both an augmented 11th and an augmented 5th.

I am so impressed by these vids... I am buying this at once... this is just done to well...
well thought out production ... just like a good jazz tune.
-
isnt it really just the lydian augmented scale?

This is great! (I consider "Harmonic minor" the Minor Major scale, not "Melodic minor" (even though both scales spell out a Maj7#5 7th chord from the 3rd degree). I would always like to know which scale someone is talking about, its so much clearer when the scales actual name is used.. actually.. I along with many people would consider the phrase "minor major" to refer to an arpeggio or 7th chord.. not a scale. In practice, Either scale could be used for their subtle differences.
nope - didnt hear the girlfriend vibe of the maj7#5, i clearly have no soul (or just bad ears).

He nailed it! I did in fact write a tune for my girlfriend with that chord. At that time I thought it to be original, but now it turns out it's just a cliché... I hope the girlfriend doesn't mind :)
I might be unoriginal but at least I have a soul ;)
