beserker5, i can't believe your jaded, cynical view. Yes, you're right, humans are "addicted" to approval. Even you, but you won't admit it. By complimenting people or students, you are prophesying good things into their lives. YOU ARE the one who needs to think...or maybe become human again.

Free hugs is cool !
Honk if you're beautiful is unethical. It's an addicted to approval test. The tacit lesson is "I will approve of you by giving you a compliment if you do what I want (honk)". It's manipulation through flattery. Applying such ideas to students is harmful. By complimenting students you are telling them what to think/feel. In addition to judging them you're depriving them of the chance to develop their own beliefs/feelings about things and themselves. Finish your thinking.
