As with my microkorg video this is a very quick overview of the Korg M50 (61 Key version) from Korg. This video is not a review or a performance piece - and it just covers the very, very basics but hopefully should prove interesting to anyone thinking of investing four figures before buying it. I tried to keep the video brief and so obviously I barely scratch the surface of this incredible instrument!

I think it's important to point out that ALL of the sounds in the video were coming from the Korg M50. Sometimes it's hard to make a judgment call as to whether the unit is suitable for your needs when there's a lot of other equipment connected to it also outputting sounds. This is pure M50.

Things I forgot or didn't have time to cover:

The sequencer can be played live or step by step so if you're feeling a little rusty you can put it in each note as you wish and change it all easily.

The M50 accepted the pedal data from my Casio without need for any MIDI changes. I didn't use the pedals deliberately so the recording would be pure M50 but they work and can sustain/damper the Korg etc with ease through the Casio.

The MIDI triggers on the pitch bend/joystick area can be set to ANYTHING - any MIDI trigger you need and you can even trigger THEM with a switch pedal.

The sequencer is totally editable - this sounds silly but it can act more like a song accompaniment than a mere replay of what you did - it's a record of MIDI triggers which include your performance. Given the massive polyphonic nature of the M50 you could use the sequencer just to trigger events such as drum riffs or instrument changes - it's not just a tape deck for your tracks.

The COMBI MODE has lots of stunning string and voice combination patches. I didn't do them justice but then neither would youtube's encoding or probably your comp's speakers! ;)

The M50 is much bigger than it looks in this video - in tandem with the wide angle lens on the camera and my giant ass in frame it looks quite small. It's not.

Finally - the most asked question I had on the MicroKorg video - there are no speakers the M50. You need an amp and speakers.

Bonus points to anyone who can name the last three songs I start to play. You have to name all three. First to name all three wins kudos!

Love to hear your questions and comments. Thanks for looking. Don't forget to rate - good or bad!
