This is a 1969 Morris Mini-Cooper S modified by Downton in Europe. It's a MK II with sliding windows, external door hinges, and the bigger MK II tail lights. For such a small vehicle, there is loads of room inside the car, as the tranverse mounted twin carbureted 4 cylinder takes up less room because it's sideways. The designers of the car wanted as much room in a small space as was possible, and they achieved that very well in the Mini-Cooper. This one gets about 35 mpg when you're light on the gas, and is very fun to drive. Hope you enjoy!
Downton were out of Downton, near Salisbury Wiltshire UK. Please web search Downton Engineering, it was run by an Eccentric English couple Daniel &Bunty Richmond, well worth reading up on, just search for Downton Engineering, so many great stories, from people who worked there in the 1960s early 70s.
