This is a 1969 Morris Mini-Cooper S modified by Downton in Europe. It's a MK II with sliding windows, external door hinges, and the bigger MK II tail lights. For such a small vehicle, there is loads of room inside the car, as the tranverse mounted twin carbureted 4 cylinder takes up less room because it's sideways. The designers of the car wanted as much room in a small space as was possible, and they achieved that very well in the Mini-Cooper. This one gets about 35 mpg when you're light on the gas, and is very fun to drive. Hope you enjoy!

  • Downton were out of Downton, near Salisbury Wiltshire UK. Please web search Downton Engineering, it was run by an Eccentric English couple Daniel &Bunty Richmond, well worth reading up on, just search for Downton Engineering, so many great stories, from people who worked there in the 1960s early 70s.
