After we exposed the 'empty tents' story as a lie, some newspapers came up with a new line. They said their thermal imaging camera only sees which tents are occupied when someone's been in it for a while and it's warmed up. We thought this was nonsense, we thought they were covering up for their mistake. So we tested their theory. If a thermal camera couldn't tell which tent was occupied after someone spent an hour in one then the story would crumble. Guess what...

  • Silly. All it shows is you failed to detect the inevitable temperature differences between tent with a heat source in and one without.

Clearly the wrong exposure settings and probably not an appropriately sensitive camera as the person is not bleached out. To prove anything you need the camera that the Times used, get it to show different temperatures of tents as they did and then somehow demonstrate that was not because there were people in some tents and not the others

  • @CarefulWith The screen layout tells us that it's a camera made by Flir, probably the cheaper i3 model with a thermal sensitivity of 0.15°C. Should be more than sensitive enough for the test, I would have thought.

  • What's the make and model of this thermal camera. They range by vastly on their ability and how they see heat.
