Short video of the mudbath area at Sulphur Springs, in Soufriere St Lucia. The stream is a mixture of spring water from higher up and ground water that has seeped into the geothermal field, creating steam vents, boiling springs, bubbling mudpots and the occasional geyser. The water temperature in the "Black Pool" was about as hot I as could stand - I would estimate about 33C. The water is rich with iron sulphate and other volcanic minerals, providing therapeutic benefits such as relief from dermatitis, rheumatism and minor aches and pains. Upon discovery by the French in the mid 1700s, the waters were analyzed and found to have the same therapeutic properties as famous baths in France and Germany. The mud washes off easily - it naturally exfoliates leavign your skin feeling very soft. It feels a little strange as the mud dries on your body but you feel very relaxed and rejuvenated upon leaving. It's good, dirty fun!

  • St Lucia is awesome - amazing scenery, fantastic hiking, good snorkeling and some of the friendliest people you'll ever meet. Great destination for nature lovers - there's a lot of trails through pristine rainforest that covers the mountains, a fair number of waterfalls and the diving is supposed to be excellent. On the east coast you can go whale and dolphin watching and / or turtle watching and the southeast is great for wind and kite surfing.
