Our 20 year old FIV+ Nicky is sure to make you forget any misconceptions you may have about Feline Immunodeficiency Virus. She's a sweet happy lady and will warm your heart the moment she curls up with you and starts to purr. FIV weakens a cat's defenses against infection. Nicky has been mostly fortunate her whole life, although she does have HCM. Recently an abdominal mass was discovered, but we were all surprised when she vet approved her for surgery to remove it. She's done wonderfully after the surgery and is as affectionate and sweet as always. See also our FIV+ Suite Tour video, which has some helpful info about FIV.

  • I have two FIV+ cats, I have had them both for some years with no illnesses, they are wonderful animals and I would urge anybody looking to adopt a cat, to consider an FIV+

  • That's what happened to my cat that we just lost this past summer. She was 14. Doing until the last 2 weeks of her life. Wasn't eating, wasn't going, the vet found a large mass in her abdomin. She was taking medicine to flush it out but due to her age it took a lot out of her. Her breathing got heavier. We just couldn't see Baily like that anymore. So I guess it was FIV that killed her?

  • We just lost ours this weekend after it quit eating and drinking for 3 days. Had to put it down as the vet couldn't stabilize him anymore.. Only had him 9 years. :(

  • I have a cat with FIV. His name is Murdock. He is pretty healthy and laid back. Nicky had the cutest purr when she purred at the screen.

  • @honigkatze - have the test done again. Kitten testing can result in false-positives!!!!!!!!!

  • I have one FIV cat. His name is Murdock. A really laid back cat.

  • @honigkatze UNLIKE HUMANS CATS CAN FIGHT AND GAIN AN IMMUNITY TO IT ALSO IT THE TESTING ONLY IDENTIFIES THOSE CATS THAT CARRY THE FIV ANTIBODY, AND DOES NOT DETECT THE ACTUAL VIRUS.

  • Thanks so much for this inspirational & educational video. I have an 8 month old kitten newly diagnosed with FIV although she's had symptoms since I found her at 3 months old. To all those with cats living until 18+ with FIV - When were they first diagnosed? Can my cat live just as long being so young with the disease?

  • My 8 year old cat Tod was diagnosed with FIV just a few months ago. He was always getting into fights, but now we keep him inside so he won't spread it to other cats. He's fine now, he's acting almost the same as before except he's more playful and social because he's so bored now, so I try to play with him more.
