This playground is better known as the Gold Mine Tour, a snowmobiling adventure offered by Glacier City Snowmobile Tours in Girdwood, Alaska. $200 gets a snowmachine, fuel, a campfire lunch and a killer guide. This outfit is the only one allowed to operate back here, so the coast is always clear and the conditions are always perfect. The first few minutes of helmet cam footage are done in real-time; for reference, I was generally going anywhere between 5mph in the curves to 35mph on the straighter stretches.
From there, you'll get a glimpse into the campfire lunch -- which features Reindeer hot dogs and Russian Hot Tea -- and finally, a look at the tail-end of the ride at warp speed.
I was lucky enough to have Matthew Moscoso as my guide, and Chanc Deschamps-Prescott, who could very well end up in the next winter Olympics for his work in snowcross. Needless to say, this whole trip was a total rush, and if you end up in the greater Anchorage area, definitely look these guys up.
