In the book "World War Z" by Max Brooks, page 146 contains a description of a tool officially called the "standard infantry entrenchment tool" aka THE LOBO, or lobotomizer. I do not recall any other descriptions of the LOBO (If you know of one, please let me know). I fabricated mine from 3/4" pipe and an old rusty WW2 era US Army entrenching tool blade (the original wood handle was long gone). The pipe handle is just over 30". There is a "T" handle that is approximately 8" wide. The "T" handle is welded. I drilled 2 holes in the other end of the pipe handle to correspond with the existing holes in the E-tool blade. I do not recall the hole diameter or the size of the screws I used. I then welded the screws in place. If I were doing this over, I would have made a "D" shaped handle instead of a "T" shaped handle. I sharpened the e-tool blade with an angle grinder. This actually makes for a decent shovel. Another improvement I might make in the future might be some sort of shock absorbing grip. Any suggestions?

  • The way this guy reads WWZ is like the way I've seen lots of people read the bible out loud. :D
