BFRO BC Expedition, August 2006 - We had arrived maybe 2 hours before darkness, and spent the time waiting for night fall by chit chatting away in the twilight till dusk. At this time we decided to make some calls, or vocalizations ourselves to attract a bit of attention, should bigfoot be about. We all considered this to be a given, since the day before at this spot 4 people from the group had had Class A sightings. 3 of those people were back with us now tonight.
Cory was first and stood in the back of my open pickup truck and made his calls. Next Luke gave a spectacular array of calls, truly impressive, long and loud. But still no response except for a few sticks and branches breaking in the wooded grove below and west. My turn, I gave a couple of short hoots as we had showed me how. Then thinking of the samuari talk I threw in a "KONICHIWA" twice. From my vantage, in the back of the pickup, a soft voice, from less than a 100 feet away, upslope, came a "HELLOO" .... which only I heard, probably because i was up higher than the others whom were still jabberring away on the ground beside the truck. Good sign I thought, but odd to hear an english response.
It was decided we would retire to the vehicles shortly and wait the night out inside the cars to see what would happen. No one was going to pitch a tent this night, in this place. Luke and I placed 6 apples and an opened bottle of water on the rear tailgate of the truck. Luke rolled down his window all the way and encouraged me to do the same, which I did, so were the windows open in Stans car as well, with Cory and Stans son Chris.
Soon, within 30 minutes Luke was hearing rustling and movement behind the truck, Oddly there was also a LOT of snoring coming from Stans vehicle, how could they all fall asleep so quickly on a stakeout I wondered. Must be faking it to draw the animals in closer. Shortly there after I began smelling a very strong odor. It was a smokey, woodsy, yet sweet smell, not repugnant at all. I said to "luke they are here" I can smell them. Luke replied he could hear movement as well. Then I noticed what seemed to me a very loud humming, at a very low frequency but still audable to me, but not Luke. It seemed like I could feel it as much as I could hear it, and particularly in the soles of my feet which were contacting the truck floor. Even though this was only 4 days ago as I write this now, some of the time sequence of the early part of the nights events is blurry. The smell and the humming would come and go several times, each time Luke niether heard nor smelled either, but was aware of rustling sounds from behind us. We both did hear thru the night short soft whistles from no more than 30 feet away, behind and to our sides. Comanndo style whistles I thought at the time. Also in the distance was much howling, screaming, other strange calls, off in distance and to the east.
This being my 5th night out in the bush I was prepared for another session of worry and fear, and anything but falling asleep. I hadn't slept a wink on any of the previous nights out, nor did i want to for fear of missing the action, or being caught unawares. This night was a little different though, the close proximity of the other people, the fact I was inside a vehicle, and Matt's speech given to us earlier in the night about the friendly and curious nature of bigfoot, what we should expect and how we should react, left me not too anxious at all. But I was definately not sleepy as I was now adjusted to night shift observation and daytime sleeping.
I would say between midnight and 4 am at times I was unbelievably sleepy at times, and I fought hard to stay awake, this always coincided with the presence of the humming sound, but not every time I heard the humming sound did I also feel uncontrolably sleepy. Sometimes I would feel my head fall sideways, and that motion would jerk me awake. I know that couple of times I did nod off but only for a few seconds or so it seemed. Whenever I felt sleepy I fought hard to stay awake, and would also nudge Luke, who seemed to start snoring but always claimed he was awake. Off and on in the distance the screams and howls continued.
