I'm glad that the manual tradition will be restored for next time. After all, if the Germans and Scandinavians can still do it manually, why can't Yorkshire folk?...and aren't we supposed to be cutting down on fossil fuel consumption anyway?

The Barwick maypole tradition is still going. A good risk assesment was all that was needed to get around the health and saftey issues. The next maypole festival is on the 26th May this year.

God this brings back some memories - I was actually born in Barwick & danced around the maypole when I was a kid!
