"Another Chance for Love," brings together shelter dogs and prisoners to create another chance for both of them. Shelter dogs are brought to minimum- and medium-security prisons to be trained on a one-to-one basis by inmates with whom they also live.
Before the inmates get to play-train the dogs, they are taught behavioral theories (basic psychology), which give them the tools to understand behavior and communicate effectively without having to resort to violence.
The inmates are then taught "The Loved Dog --- the playful non-aggressive way of teaching dogs good behavior," which is based on Tamar Geller's bestselling book by the same name.
After 8-12 weeks, the dogs are certified as "A Loved Dog" and are available for adoption by the public. Certification as "A Loved Dog" indicates that dog has consistently good behavior. The dogs have been trained, socialized and tested in more situations than most pets.
Once the inmates are released, some will have the opportunity to work for The Loved Dog™ center as dog trainers. The released men and women have a chance to reinvent the direction of their lives by sharing and contributing their knowledge and compassion with society , earning newfound respect as dog experts, which creates a circle of love!
