@nycmaster AWD and 4WD are different. One is always in 4 wheel. the other can change from 4wheel to 2 wheel drive.

@nycmaster I think 4WD is available to switch into 2WD, but AWD is not.

@venik652 4WD=AWD, a car only has 4 wheels. lol
the AWD term was created for Americans, cause we couldn't distinguish that they are the same. Kind of sad. the rest of the world understands though.

Subaru did several commercials featuring the engine/wireframe parts in their commercials. Probably my favorite as well.
