Lesa Merlo was diagnosed in her 20s with a genetic condition that led to increasing hearing loss. Mrs. Merlo came to Loyola University Medical Center and had a consultation with Dr. Sam Marzo, medical director of the Ear, Nose and Throat department at Loyola. He told her she was a good candidate for a new implantable hearing device. After the surgery, her family could see the immediate impact it had on her. Lesa can now do things about the house AND hear her children when they ask homework questions from across the room. Before they would have to stand directly in front of her so that she could read their lips.
