Bug Zapper Test

Research and Development on an high powered bug zapper. Looks like the first thing I need to do is increase the gap between the wire grids so it will stop arcing as soon as power is applied.

Fascinating. What old heater are you talking of? Is it from an electric furnace?

well its from a gas furnace that uses a transformer to ignite the flame.

What are you using as a power supply?

Im using an ignition transformer from an old heater. 120AC primary and 6200AC on the secondary.

How much voltage did you use? And if you touched it could it kill you?

This is 120vac primary and 6000vac secondary 60hz 25mA. It only takes around 10mA across your heart to stop it at any voltage but the circumstances would have to be just right, such as touching with both hands. This is why experienced electricians will work on panels with one had in their pocket. I dont plan on intentionally touching it. ever.

I found one in the garage but its not working, dunno if its the bulb ors the ballast.

Thanks for the info! I am planning to make my own bug zapper. I got an ignition transformer from my oil furnace that I no longer needed. The primary is 120V 60Hz 250va and secondary is 10,000v 23ma. Do you have an idea what the spacing should be between the inner cage and the outer cage? Thanks in advance!
