Strasbourg: New European Parliament Inauguration

The 2009-2014 European Parliament was inaugurated on Monday as the members met for their first plenary session in Strasbourg, France, after the June 2009 European elections.

Well the EU only existed after Germany was united. The former EEC helped build a more stable western european economy, it offered a future to eastern european countries that have now joined.

Immigration is a huge problem to europe, thankfully that is not an EU area of power.. thats up to national governments who have to stand up and recognise the problem

@swerve1960 I am British myself. But it's plain to see that throughout the entire history of the British empire (That being, the actual British Empire, we are talking 1583 onwards) we have been kept free of oppression by 3 things more so than the others.

1. Strong allies (or at least strong enemies of my enemies). Namely Russia.

2. A channel of water isolating us from the rest of Europe.

3. A strong navy.

But my only point is, we only die more because we are tugged around on a leash by the US.

As I said, it's nice for America to have a batphone to their former oppressors to drag them into whatever illegal war they want. The reason that France and Germany have less KIA than the UK despite having a larger armed forces is because they have less committed.

I wasn't just talking about World War 2. Every time a warmongering dictator has grabbed Europe by the balls, Brits have avoided being conquered after having their armies thoroughly thrashed because of the channel. Simple.

@Sajuek Hi! KIA in Afghan:USA 1,416, UK 359, Canada 153, France 53, Germany 52 so far. In ww2 Britain did not 'curl up & suck their thumbs'(an insulting & very ignorant comment) Under Churchill it waged a very aggressive war against the Axis and with the combined might of USSR & USA defeated them after many casualties. UK ruined herself to free europe.Yes the resistance contributed greatly,but it is a sad fact that many more people collaborated.
