    When I was growing up our local television station would run Pete Smith Specialty between movies, just the old days of theaters in the 1930's to 1950's. This really takes me back.

    Indeed need more Jimmys and their hamshacks today than any Jacobs wasting away in front of their Wii's, Gameboys, or Call of Duty. Technical training and a duty to serve is terribly absent from today's youth.

    This is a short selection of stories from Clinton B. DeSoto's book "Calling CQ - Adventures of Short Wave Radio Operators". DeSoto was W9KL, and I helped curate the book years ago to keep it alive. I didn't know there were some of the stories from it made into a movie long ago. The book is on Archive org.
