The Ismay Plot.
In a tranquil, beautiful corner of Putney Vale Cemetery lie the Ismay family. Bruce Ismay managed to survive the sinking of the Titanic but from what I have read, was haunted by the disaster and hounded by the press (in print) for much of his life. As I filmed in the quiet, my head filled with noise - metal hitting ice, the passengers screams, the roar of freezing water, the burbling, dying engines and the hard splash of bodies hitting the sea.
Later, when I watched the footage on my computer I thought it had a underwater quality to it, as if i had been filming on the sea bed.

  • I do not know enough about the man to damn him, I merely said a little of what I had read at the time of posting the video. I have since been reading more about him and I can see that opinion is based, sometimes, on the opinion of others. I read a fascinating piece about Randolph Hearst and his hatred for Ismay, which, with the power Hearst had, would no doubt have influenced the opinions of the opinion makers!

  • A lot of people may call Ismay a coward and traitor. But if you were in the same situation as him. What would you do? I'd guess a lot would've stayed on the ship. But it makes me wonder.. was it his cowardice or his survival instincts. He too was only a human and he acted like a human would..trying to survive. He may have been coward, especially during a time when women and children came first. But after this catastrophe Ismay lived in recluse and hid from society. He too went down with the ship

  • @LauraJayneIsmay98, are you an ismay aswell, because i am and the critiscm that bruce has got is absoultly atrocious.

  • @MrSoulMechanic you don't know anything about Joseph Bruce Ismay... I do he did NOT say to the captain to speed up that was the captains decision and I have the documents to prove it so wheeeyy

  • people were way to harsh on Ismay the man saves lifes before getting in a life boat and he was persuaded to get in and so was captain smith but captain smith refused to get on and its sad he died alone without one leg.

  • I am sorry, but I have read plenty about Ismay, and his greed and manipulation of the shipping trade in the early 20th century caused the death of people who need not have died. He paralyzed other ships that folks on the Titanic were not meant to be on by shifting all the coal available to this one vessel. He had blatant ice reports in his pocket and ignored the danger. he prompted Capt Smith ( because he was his superior ) to run at over 20 knots in a confirmed danger zone . No rest for you

  • Ismay was treated way too harshly. The film portrayal was absurd. It showed him as a devious coward. One of the worst scenes in the film was the scene where he is shown to have named the ship "Titanic" due to some male self-esteem problems. Anyone who knows anything about Titanic, Olympic and Gigantic (later renamed Britannic) is that they were named for mythological beings. Awful depiction. RIP Mr Ismay.
