So are you saying that they apparently committed their crimes because of their Catholicism? The SS had people of different backgrounds. Protestant, Catholic, Atheist, etc. Stalin, Lenin and Mao were Atheists, but did they commit their crimes because they were Atheists? No. They murdered because they were Communist dictators.

@hempartist420 Northern Germany had a large Protestant population and the South a large Catholic population. The Nazis were Anti-Christian. While they appeared to be supportive of Christianity, in reality they were Anti-Christian. They simply used Christianity to gain support of a Christian majority nation. According to OSS documents, "The purpose of the National Socialist movement was to convert the German people into a homogeneous racial group united in all its energies for prosecution..."
