The Mall of the Emirates has posted signs at all its entrances instructing visitors on its "Courtesy Policy."

The blue sign placed on the sliding glass doors advises visitors to "Please wear respectful clothing" and "No kissing or overt displays of affection", among other things.

The sign, however, doesnt elaborate on what the policy regards as "non-respectful clothing" nor what the penalties for violating the policy may be.

"Courtesy policies have always applied to malls in the MAF Shopping Malls portfolio [Majid Al Futtaim shopping malls]," said Fouad Sharaf, Vice President of Mall of the Emirates.

"The courtesy policy has been there since the inception of the mall."

Asked about what they meant by "respectful clothing", Sharaf said, "The mall is a place for enjoyment and relaxation, but also a place where families and children come. If any visitor is overly-exposed, our security guards will make them aware that it is not culturally acceptable. The policy is enforced in a positive and constructive way."

Asked if he feels that this policy may have a negative effect on visitors, Sharaf said: "It will only have a positive effect because ours has always been a mall for all age groups and backgrounds and steps like these will only further enhance the goodwill among shoppers and the cultural understanding of one another."

  • There are rules in America regarding what you wear: many stores have the following policy:

No Shirt, No Shoes - No service.

Thankfully schools are beginning to implement the rules that you can't show your underwear by wearing your pants too low. That goes for the boys especially, because now it's the IN thing for teens to do (imitate real gangstas).

  • Is that a fact?

  • The thing is, and this is a fact, MOST women, especially American should not wear such revealing clothing, for the fact that they do not have the bodies for it. I think most women, no matter of culture or religion look best in dresses, A-line, true 19502 dresses, that accentuate the waist, but are still perfectly suitable style wise and modesty wise. I love a short skirt here and there, but if you are walking around, why would you want to draw attention? Even in the USA, girls need to be careful

  • We the Europeans hate to that muslim wear those hideous clothes but they still wear it, so why we should respect those stupid tradition...muslim kill womens because they husband s sustain that they commit adultery wich in most cases they dont but they have issues and they punish them...and all so a women testimony of a women counts half then a man testimony...Islamic laws are made to suit mens interes and propagandist satisfaction of the religios leaders. very sad where is the human rights..!!

  • oh grow up!!! no signs of affection!????? jesus what century is this!?....people who agree with this are DUMB
