This was when WWF started doing odd kayfabe-breaking things to, I think, try and get more edgy like WCW was, now that WCW was providing very serious competition. Or they may just want to bury Dusty Rhodes per the usual MO at the time.

Wow. I have to say it comes as a blow to me to hear how he had to fight for this character and to gain respect after he 'became' Goldust. I've been watching the WWF since I was 4, and I remember being a girl and instantly falling in love with this extravagant character when he debuted. The theme, the outfit, the whole gimmick.. He's been one of my favourites since day 1. I have this poster of him and Marlena I must have gotten 15 years ago and still keep preciously..

He was always awesome to me.
