@gonzo5th We might have to wait until 16nm, which is ~2.5 years away (Roswell), but by that time we'll have 8-core laptop CPUs that'll far surpass the 975 extreme with computational power, and also more work done per core too. Ya have to remember how fast things get 'old' in the silicon industry.

No Sandy Bridge chip that's 45watts isn't going to even come close to a full desktop i7 975 extreme 130watt chip. Maybe in another decade they will make another mobile processor that's as fast but not now and don't care what hype is you have to cut corners somewhere if it doesn't have the juice

Just wait until the mobile Sandy Bridge 4-core chips come out. That CPU will take sooo much less power than the deskop 975, and be nearly as fast.
